Gladiators win only one game in Westphalia
The Brave Gladiators have won only one of their six games so far during their Westphalia tour.
The national women’s football team left for Germany on Thursday last week and started off their campaign on Saturday when they lost 1-0 to FSV Futersloh.
The team then faced Warendorfer SU, losing 1-0, before holding Werder Bremen to a goalless draw.
They then went on to beat Herford 1- 0, before holding Warendorf 0-0 and losing 2-4 on penalties.
On Monday they drew again 0-0 against a Westphalia regional team. Brave Gladiators head coach Jacqueline Shipanga, who is accompanying the team coached by Bryan van Staden, said the players are playing well and showing much promise.
“Our normal benchwarmers at the senior level are stepping up and out and doing themselves a great deal of good.
“Anna-Marie Shikusho is looking to replace Stella Williams as the first-choice goal scorer, while Sharon Pieters, Mellissa Matheus and Kylie van Wyk are all showing great mantle as well,” she said.
Veteran Gladiator Juliana Skrywer is using the opportunity to find a club in Germany since scouts have indicated interest in her. Kylie van Wyk, meanwhile, is touted as the next Zenatha Coleman based on her footwork and agility.
The team, captained by Germany-based Veweziwa Kotjipati, is expected back home on 20 August.
The Namibian delegation: Veweziwa Kotjipati, Hernandez Amaury, Heribert Kapeng , Twelikondjela Amukoto, Twanyanyukwa Anstino, Juliana Blou, Agnes Kauzuu, Lovisa Mulunga, Vistoria Shangula, Anna Shikusho, Cadisha Kazimbu, Melissa Matheus, Lydiana Nanamus, Eddelsisingh Naris, Memory Ngonda, Sharon Pieters , Kylie van Wyk, Lydia Eixas, Julien Garises, Shama Gure, Ndapewa Katuta, Jaqueline Shipanga, Juliana Skrywer and Bryan van Staden.
