German leisure airline Condor to fly to Windhoek
Namibia’s rising allure with international visitors has not been lost on German leisure airline Condor Flugdienst, who last week announced the country as its latest long-haul offering.
As of November 10, the Frankfurt-based airline will fly to Windhoek twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays, before it introduces flights from Windhoek to Frankfurt on the same days on November 13.
“We will again be setting the trend in the 2014/15 winter season, and will be introducing our customers to the new and exciting destination of Namibia,†Condor’s head of long-haul, Jens Boyd, said in a statement issued last week.
“Windhoek is the perfect tourist destination for the Condor flight programme and enhances our service in the south of Africa,†he said.
A subsidiary of the UK’s Thomas Cook Group, Condor is on record as Germany’s third largest commercial airline based on fleet size and passengers flown.
Specialising in holiday travel, it operates scheduled flights to destinations in the Mediterranean, Asia, Africa, North America, South America and the Caribbean.
Namibian customers will be able to benefit from this arrangement, through being allowed the option of connecting flights to various European, US, Cuban and Asian airports, and booking these through Condor.
The airline also offers train tickets within Germany (at e33/N$455.40) per person and route.
The Thomas Cook Group’s fleet of airlines comprises 88 modern aircraft, of which 40 aircraft are in the Condor fleet.
These include 12 Airbus A320s, 3 Airbus A321s, 13 Boeing 757-300s and 12 Boeing 767-300s.
All Condor aircraft are maintained by the airline’s own technical operations.
