Gawaseb gets N$25 000
Hollard Namibia and Snyman Transport made a donation to Para-athlete Rudly Gawaseb, who has been desperate for funds.
Namibia's Para-athlete Rudly Gawaseb received a combined sponsorship of N$25 000 from Hollard Namibia and Snyman Transport yesterday.
The sponsorship will enable Gawaseb to travel to George, South Africa, for the annual Outeniqua Wheelchair Challenge. HR and corporate affairs manager at Hollard Sam Kauapirura said they were happy to sponsor Gawaseb.
“It was actually Snyman Transport who read an article in Namibian Sun about the athlete who was in need of funds. “They contacted us and together we decided to give a combined sponsorship of N$25 000 for the athlete to travel to South Africa.
“We are happy for him and we hope he will do well at the competition,” Kauapirura said.
This year's Outeniqua Wheelchair Challenge will take place on 15 February, with Para-athletes competing for top prizes. Gawaseb has been part of the challenge for the past three years and won a silver medal in 2017 when he took part alongside Frans Paulus and Matias Kamenya.
Gawaseb came second in the T53 21km wheelchair race while Kamenya came second in the T54 21km.
Gawaseb thanked the companies for making his trip possible.
“I am ready and have been training hard to compete in the 40km race,” said Gawaseb.
