Galz & Goalz a source for spotting talent
The Namibia Football Association hailed the 'Football and Healthy Lifestyle Festival' which took place in Eenhana on Saturday, as a success.
The festival attracted 489 girls who received life skill lessons which they can use in their daily lives. The girls, who come from 14 different schools in the Ohangwena Region, took part in Under-13, 15, 17 and 20 football tournaments.
The Namibia Planned Parenthood Association shared information with the girls on HIV and Aids and also offered HIV counselling and testing for adults who attended.
The programme 'Teenagers against Alcohol and Drugs Abuse' shared information on the consequences of alcohol and drug abuse.
Frederic Sitali, the regional coordinator of Ohangwena Galz & Goals said since the launch of the programme in the region in 2011, the coaches and committee members have been working hard to continuously develop the programme with the aim of contributing to the realisation of the national development goals.
“NFA Galz & Goals has been like my baby since the programme was launched in Ohangwena in 2011 and it is an unspeakable joy for me to see what we have managed to do and how many girls are actively part of the programme,” said Sitali.
The girls from Haindongo Primary School's A team won the under-13 tournament, while Eenhana Senior Secondary School took the gold in the under-15 tournament.
The under-17 tournament was won by Ocavela Combined School, while the under -20 team from Eenhana Senior Secondary School won their tournament.
The next event is the Eenhana Galz & Goals League that will kick off on 17 June 2017.
The NFA Galz & Goals programme is a partnership between the Namibia Football Association, United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund and SCORE Namibia.
