Fundraising for Rundu Trade Fair disappoints
The fair is scheduled from 31 October to 4 November.
RUNDU - The Rundu town council only managed to get N$176 000 at a fundraising gala dinner for the town’s annual trade fair on Friday night, about N$324 000 less than last year.
The gala dinner was attended by the business community as well as the public.
FNB Namibia and Standard Bank Namibia were responsible for the highest sponsorship of N$50 000 each.
The Rundu Trade Fair will be held from 31October to 4 November under the theme, “Enhancing trade for socio-economic prosperity”. The trade fair is in its second year under the management of the Rundu town council since it was taken over from the Rundu urban constituency who held it over years under the name Kavango Trade Fair.
Dr Samuel Mbambo, regional governor of Kavango East, said the fair will undoubtedly enhance and boost the economic development of the town.
“Holding an event such as a gala dinner is an opportunity for our stakeholders and the business community to support the initiative of the council to raise funds to ensure that the scheduled trade fair is a success,” he said.
Fransiska Thikerete, head of community services at the town council and chairperson of the organising committee, said the preparations for the fair are at an advanced stage.
