WINDHOEK

Musician and entrepreneur Maria Lisa Immanuel, better known as ML, recently released her third album, titled With Love.

Packaged on a USB rather than a regular CD, the album became available on digital platforms on Monday, 20 July.

Boasting 14 songs, with With Love, ML transcends the 'local musician' label and becomes simply a musician.

That is to say from the time you read the feature credits, it hits you that the stakes are much higher than just creating a buzz on the streets of Windhoek or the north; the goal is continental, and eventually world domination.

Collabs

She takes on this task with collaborations with the likes of Angola's OG Gurilla, Tanzania's Barnaba, Nigeria's Og the First and South Africa's DJ Crucial.

On the home front, Mushe, Top Cheri and Koxa are also recruited for verses on various songs on the album. And although this might seem typical of ML, there is nothing typical about the production and treatment of the album.

Mr Andrew On The Beat produced the majority of songs, eight to be exact, while other producers listed on the production credits include the reigning Namibian Annual Music Awards producer of the year DJ Chronic, who produced Eyes On You and Lockdown, and Jody on the Beat, who is behind Africa Motherland, a reggae-inspired track with potentially massive international appeal.

Another cool surprise element on the album is that it ends off with an amapiano track, a remix of Hardworking Woman, and for this, ML roped in DJ Crucial.

Number one

Just one day after its release, With Love hit the number one spot on iTunes/Apple Music, and to thank her fans for the achievement, ML dropped visuals to Ndateelela, which features Mushe, on Wednesday.

Fans can catch ML and her band at Bonfire Acoustic Sessions tonight at 19:00 at The Garden Inn.

All in all, With Love is a water-tight, complete body of work every music lover should buy or stream.
