Fresh and Popping – Lockdown edition
MICHAEL KAYUNDE
WINDHOEK
As you already know, Fresh and Popping is where we share trending songs, hot out of the booth. We tell you why they deserve a chance to be featured on your personal playlist and, if you're into events, why you need to add these artists to your line-up.
Kukuta –
Kaboy Kamakili
The music video to this song was premiered on YouTube on Wednesday, 1 April. Because of the nature of his breakthrough, many music fans fear for his career, implying that he might be a one-hit wonder.
However, with this song, Kaboy Kamakili reminds us of his musical talents and what he can offer to the game. Though his rhyming ability has never faltered, in the past, he could have been accused of leaning more to one side of the sonic spectrum, but with Kukuta, he delivers a contemporary track without compromising his rhymes.
Ano Olye – Manxebe
Manxebe is an interesting new artist. On his debut major release, he takes no prisoners and meets the expectations of the following he's amassed with his music.
This single reached 100 000 views on YouTube this week, and it happens to be his first official music video. “Reaching this milestone means I have got people's attention and it is up to me to keep them entertained, which is what I signed up for in the first place.
“Following the success of Ano Olye, I will be releasing a new song called Vuuma on Saturday, 4 April, on Donlu Africa and YouTube. The new music video was shot and directed by Sodo,” Manxebe shared.
Forty Five - Fire16
Christian rapper Fire16 is back with a new offering, this time around in the form of the song Forty Five off his forthcoming project, Epoch.
To complement the track, the rapper released a one-shot video starring his wife and children earlier this week.
Gideon Ntxbeni and Stephan Beukes were entrusted with directing, grading and camera work for the short clip. Forty Five is a snippet of what fans can expect from the new album. While not much has been said about the sonic direction the project will take, the new single is a good teaser.
The Only Ones – Nando Homie
Following his Alinda Freestyle, Nando Homie recently released his new offering, The Only Ones.
The track is available on Donlu Africa. In an interview with tjil, he shared that Only Ones is the official single off The Break On 13th EP, a project he has been stalling to put out for a really long time.
“I have been waiting long enough on a song I'm comfortable with shooting a music video for, and I think The Only Ones is the right one.”
