Members of the public will not have to worry about transport this coming weekend, as ten buses will be used to transport football fans to the Independence Stadium for the 2016 Dr Hage Geingob Cup.
The much-anticipated competition will see defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, African Stars and Tigers celebrate the Namibian president’s 75th birthday in style.
The third edition of the Dr Hage Geingob Cup will be played on Saturday and Sunday at the Independence Stadium.
South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and compatriots Olrando Pirates will face off in the second semi-final while MTC Premiership winners Tigers will take on last year’s losing finalists, African Stars.
“We have secured 10 buses that will pick people up from various points at no charge. This is because we recognise that the stadium is a bit far and thus want to make it effortless for people to get to and from the stadium,” said Titus Kunamwene of the NFA.
He added that the organising committee wants all Windhoekers to go and witness the best of football as the president celebrates his birthday.
On Saturday, the programme starts at 12:00 when the Baby Warriors take on Congo in the second round of the CAF U/17 AFCON qualifiers, to be followed by the Tigers vs African Stars match at 14:00.
Pirates and Sundowns will then take to the field at 16:00 to complete day one’s action.
On Sunday, again at 12:00, Aweh Aweh vs Madiba will play an exhibition match and at 14:00, the third-place playoff match will take place just before the final match at 16:00.
Tickets for the competition are on sale from Computicket for N$20 for a double-header. However, fans can also purchase a N$30 ticket for both days.
