OSHAKATIA bus and a Toyota Corolla this morning collided with a stationary truck on the road between Oshivelo and Omuthiya in the Oshikoto region.
The accident happened about 20 km from Omuthiya near Omutsewonime village.
Police Deputy Commissioner Petrus Shigwedha said the truck driver had been stopped by another road user who told him that his spare wheel had fallen off and was lying in the road.
The trucker, Petrus Shailemo (44), decided to make a U-turn to find his wheel, but the truck got stuck and blocked the road for the whole night.
Pile-up
An Iveco bus driven by Konis Sindanoolye Shaanika (28) crashed into the truck.
Shaanika was trapped in the wreckage of the bus and a rescue team had to cut him out. He was uninjured.
“They were three occupants in the bus but none off passengers got injured,” Shigwedha said.
Shigwedha said a blue Toyota Corolla also crashed into the stationary truck and the unidentified driver sustained serious injuries. The driver could not be identified, as he was unable to talk.
“It was confirmed through the E-Natis system that the vehicle belongs to Immanuel Immanuel. There were two in the car and the passenger sustained moderate injuries. His name is Elago Amutenya (36). The two have been transported to Omuthiya hospital,” Shigwedha said.
A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened. Police investigations continue.
Second bus crash
This was the second accident in the region in less than 48 hours.
Four people were reportedly involved in another car crash between Otavi and Tsumeb on Monday.
The three passengers all sustained juries and were admitted to the Tsumeb Lombard State Hospital in a stable condition.
