Five busted for drugs at Grootfontein

Five individuals from Grootfontein were arrested on drugs charges last week.

A police operation in Grootfontein last week led to the arrest of five people for drug possession and cigarette smuggling.

Samuel Muranda (42), Fernando Muranda (26) and Evenline Zuze (27) were charged with possession of smuggled cigarettes and whiskey.

According to regional police spokesperson Maureen Mbeha, the three were found in possession of counterfeit Yes cigarettes valued at N$78 000, Poll cigarettes valued at N$500, tobacco worth N$6 000 and whiskey valued at N$45 000. N$28 000 in cash was also found, believed to have been the proceeds of crime.

The accused appeared before magistrate Munrai Shikongo in the Grootfontein magistrate’s court on Thursday.

They were remanded in custody and the case was postponed to 20 October.

29 kg of dagga

On Tuesday evening, two other people were arrested in Grootfontein’s Omulunga location and charged with drug possession and dealing.

They were found in possession of close to 29 kilograms of dagga, valued at N$ 288 900.

The two, identified as Angelica Munaro (26) and Nanson Munaro (24), appeared before the Grootfontein magistrate’s court.

They were remanded in custody and the case was postponed to 1 November 2021.
