Fistball takes centre stage
The new fistball season starts in Swakopmund tomorrow.
The Namibian fistball season starts this weekend, with Bank Windhoek Fistball League games taking place at the Swakopmund Football Club.
In the National League Category A, the defending champions, Cohen Fistball Club 1 (CFC), will be the favourites for the prestigious title. Having won both cup tournaments and the league last year, the Blue-Whites would like to prove that this was not a one-off affair.
Their opponents, SKW 1, will be eager to thwart such plans and could do so if they can keep last year's momentum going. CFC 2 will once again be the underdogs in this year's competition.
In the National League Category B, SKW 2 are the ones to look out for as they won last year's opening tournament and the league. The Green-Whites will certainly be the favourites to win the trophy again. SFC won the national cup in November 2016.
The category is completed by the usual teams from Windhoek, which consist of Cohen 3, DTS and Cohen 4. Cohen 4 will, as they did in the national cup, integrate some of their youth players aged between 10 and 14 years.
