The first Art Therapy, themed 'collective thoughts', is scheduled for Friday, 22 October, at 17:00 at Windhoek Gardens Boutique Hotel.
Described as an integrative mental health initiative that aims to enrich the lives of individuals and communities through active art-making, the event will feature visual artists Frans Uunona and Petrus Amuthenu, sculptor Pinehas Shikulo and violinist Taleni Udeiko. All the artists will be doing a live art therapy session.
“Artists will have different sessions with the audience. The sessions aim to provide relief from challenges caused by mental health on different individuals while finding a long-lasting solution in dealing with this challenge,” Art Therapy project founder Tutaleni Pinehas said.
Pinehas added that Art Therapy also focuses on the creative process and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.
“Art therapy is a specialised area of mental health that uses art materials and the creative process to explore emotions, reduce anxiety, increase self-esteem and resolve other psychological conflicts.
“The initiative aims to positively impact and improve a person's mental health. Modalities such as art therapy, music therapy, poetry therapy, dance/movement therapy and expressive art therapy are all examples of creative arts therapy,” she said.
