Michelline NawatisesMastered the entire syllabuses of all subjects in just five monthsTariro Moyo is a 13-year-old ambitious Namibian girl born in Tsumeb. She completed her primary school at Queensdale in Harare where she started her grade one year in 2014. "My father (Brian Moyo) lectured me on grade seven in 2020 when I was in grade six, thus I wrote grade seven while in grade six in 2020," she says. Her father decided that she would not attend high school after that, and in 2021, he tutored the bright Moyo for the entire five-year term from April to October.Technically she has never been to high school and was just home-schooled. “I did my high school syllabus in five months last year from April until I wrote my Cambridge exams.” She praises her father for condensing all of the syllabus modules into easily digestible content in a single year.Her father then assured the brave 13-year-old that she would write IGCSE last year, although she was only in grade six and about to begin grade seven. "He said he'd tutor me the whole way, and I just sat for my examinations at the international school of Walvis Bay (ISWB), which is an exam centre."Her father offered tutorials and lectured her on more than 100 question papers per subject. “When my daughter went there I knew the results before they came; that's how hard we worked,” Brian says. Tariro enrolled as a private candidate at the International School of Walvis Bay (ISWB) for the Cambridge International Examination (CIE) on the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exams. Private candidates are taken to the centre to appear for tests.She obtained an A* in chemistry. An in physics, A in mathematics without coursework, an A in biology and a C in English (first language).“Even though I knew how I had passed before getting the results due to intense preparation I still was ecstatic, that it was confirmed and I am grateful to my dad because didn't have to go to grades 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 as he said it's all a waste of time since all the syllabuses are in his head.”Tariro’s tutor's experienceBrian has more than 15 years of experience in Cambridge tutorials and he hardly used any textbooks. He tutored his daughter and two of her friends who also performed well. In all disciplines, he offered them important notes from his mind. "I printed out old examination papers while preparing for exams because grasping and understanding all of those will grant distinctions."Brian also registered a tutorial college and is offering it to candidates who want a one-year programme and will assist other capable Namibians who are willing to take up the strain will be assisted by him. "We are attempting to come up with a project that won't take too long because we want to see people thrive without having to suffer."I am disappointed that the minister of education has not reached out to acknowledge Namibia's greatest international achievement. Cambridge is international, and we represented Namibia internationally, but no one from the ministry has reached out to even acknowledge that educational achievement."Tariro wants to study medicine (MB ChB) and pharmacy in the United Kingdom (UK) since she loves chemistry and it runs in her family, and she wants to specialise in neurology or paediatrics.Currently, she is doing the first- and second-year modules on medicine with her dad to prepare herself thoroughly for when she reaches the UK.Moyo envisions herself as a successful medical and pharmacy graduate in the next five years, then moving on to neurology or paediatrics.Message to learners who want to attempt Cambridge examsShe encourages students who desire to take Cambridge examinations to do so if they have a supportive and qualified tutor.
