Father jailed for hacking minor daughter with panga

A 44-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after hacking his minor daughter with a panga on Friday night in Gobabis.
According to a Namibian police weekend crime report, the minor was trying to stop her father from hitting her mother with the panga at the Freedom Square Damara Block Epako.
The minor sustained a broken arm and serious open wounds to her neck and back in the incident which occurred between 00h00 and 02h00.
A case of assault with the intent of grievous body harm read with the provision of domestic violence was opened.
Pensioner murdered
The Namibian police has launched a probe into the murder of a 68-year-old man who was stabbed to death just before midnight on Friday in Rehoboth.
The deceased was identified as Nanz Swarts.
The pensioner was stabbed on the left side of his chest by the suspect, a 25-year-old man.
The police said the motive behind the killing is unknown and the suspect was arrested.
Police investigations continue.
Three dumped bodies
Meanwhile, the dumped bodies of three men were also discovered at different locations in the vicinity of Windhoek.
At around 01h51, the body of an unknown man was found lying in the road by a motorist travelling from Okahandja to Windhoek. The driver reported the matter to the police at the road Okahandja block.
On Saturday morning, the body of Mbaindjikua Eksteen (40) was discovered in a riverbed at the Yetu Yama Namcol Centre in Katutura.
The deceased’s body - sporting a swollen face, blood seeping from the forehead and muddy feet - was found by a passer-by. His next of kin were informed and no arrests have been made thus far.
Yesterday at around 08h00, the body of Paulus Lukas (35) was found in a riverbed in Katutura with multiple stab wounds. It is alleged the deceased was last seen at One Nation bar with three men who offered to escort him home.
Suicides
Furthermore, five suicides were recorded over the weekend, the youngest being Jason Iyambo who hung himself in his bedroom at Okahao on Friday night.
Also on Friday night at Oshikuku, the children of Rauna Jason had to break the lock of their mother’s bedroom using a screwdriver after realising she was not coming out of the room. They found her lifeless body hanging on the burglar bars on the window after hanging herself with a scarf.
Around 16h00 on Friday at Oshiya Shemanya village in northern Namibia, Kaluwa Sakaria (30) hung himself with a rope from a tree.
The same day, Peter Hailonga (46) also hung himself in his bedroom.
On Saturday morning at Onesi, Theresia Shapaka’s lifeless body was found hanging from a tree by her husband and neighbours, who searched for her after she failed to return home on Friday. She left the house saying she was going to collect spinach in the bush. She was 40.
Rape
Meanwhile, the police are on the hunt for a suspect who raped a 30-year-old woman at Ruacana on Saturday evening.
The suspect allegedly forced his way into the victim’s room and raped her. According to the victim, the suspect threatened to cut off her head and put it in a freezer. He also slapped and insulted her.
At Eeshoke village, a 19-year-old woman was raped around 21h30 on Thursday while on her way home.
The suspect allegedly followed the victim from Odino cuca shops and pretended to escort her.
While on the way, the suspect pushed the victim onto the ground, undressed her and raped. The suspect is known to the victim but has yet to be arrested.
