Everybody say ‘Hot Mama’

Yanna Smith
No matter what your story is, there is nothing that is as uplifting as women helping each other succeed and motivating each other and that’s what sets songster Pinket Kauna, aka Hot Mama, apart from others. With her new album titled ‘Hot Mama’ finally out and ready for business, Kauna is excited to get her project out there because she believes someone will relate to what she has written about and her music could be the light at the end of their tunnel.
Kauna starts off telling us why she titled her album ‘Hot Mama.’ “It serves as a dedication to all the mothers out there. Some people lose confidence when they have a child and even drop their careers, lose their self-esteem and all kinds of insecurities grow - especially with students. I wanted to represent that specific group because I thought I was going to be part of that group after I had my baby at the beginning of last year. That is how the album came about,” said the songstress. The album has 14 tracks that speak about the pain of being a single mother and Namibian women that are inspirational. The other songs are feel-good songs that one can give in to. “The album is about my story. It’s not the sexual hotness I’m referring to. It’s the ability of being able to overcome situations. That’s hot. I am not perfect and I wanted to bring out what I’m feeling and what somebody might be going through,” concluded Pinket Kauna.
Out of the 14 tracks on her album she says he loves all her songs but ‘Hot Mama’ tops the list any time, any day. “It’s a dancing song that has a kwasa-kwasa vibe. The lyrics say if you have a kid and you are proud of it, can I see you move your body now. It’s a dancing song for the young and old. My fans will definitely love it,” she said. She has featured various artists both old and new including her producer Sean Blizzy, Lil Saint and Blaze. “I did a Yemi Alade cover in my language featuring Sean Blizzy thanking God for everything he has done for us. Sean is also a father so the album is also for dads out there,” said Kauna. There is also a track titled The other woman that speaks about one being a possible ‘other woman’ and makes the man choose between the two. “It’s hilarious because it’s just a song I put together and people assumed that I was going through such a relationship. That made it fun for me with all the assumptions,” she laughed. She said music videos will be underway as soon as winter is over. “It’s too cold and the video that I want to shoot first can’t be shoot during winter,” she said.
The album has not been launched yet but it’s available for purchase in Rundu and Windhoek so far. Orders can be placed through her social media @Pinket Kauna. She says she wouldn’t have gotten this far without the support of her family and fans, especially her daughter and her grandmother who has been her backbone since her mother’s passing. “We ladies are proclaimed to be mothers and we must embrace it. When you look at yourself in the mirror tell yourself that you can do it and you shall. If you have a child embrace it. A hot mama takes care of her child, it’s the little that counts. The old black Barbie is now a hot mama and she is back with a bang,” she said in her closing statement.
