Erastus gets CEO nod
MTC has appointed its chief operating officer as CEO to replace a foreign national who left in 2017.
Licky Erastus has been appointment as the new CEO of Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC).
Erastus had served as the company's acting CEO since June 2019 following a protracted search for a successor to former CEO Miguel Geraldes, who had left in 2017. “The MTC board, management and staff would like to congratulate Licky Richard Erastus on his official appointment as CEO,” the company said in a statement this week. Erastus joined MTC from the Namibian police in 2018 and served as chief operating officer. The position of acting CEO was previously held by Thinus Smit. Smit took over from Geraldes, who had been MTC's CEO since 2007 following the acquisition of a 34% stake in the company by Portugal Telecom. Erastus holds a Bachelor of Information Technology degree specialising in computer administration and networking from the then Polytechnic of Namibia [Namibia University of Science and Technology]. He also holds a Masters of Informatics degree from the same institution and later went on to complete a Doctor of Philosophy, also from NUST.
He has completed a management development programme in business administration from the University of Stellenbosch.
