Enviro Comedy Festival this Friday
Windhoek • Michael Kayunde
Hosted by FreeYourMind comedian Fernando Tafish, the 2020 Enviro Comedy Festival will take place this Friday, 20 November, at the College of The Arts’ concert hall.
The supporting acts include the usual suspects: Taap The Guy, Courage The Comedian, Big Mich, Ritha and Zita.
Centred on education, the environment and entertainment, Fernando said education and entertainment have a long-standing but ambiguous relationship.
He added that the festival pushes for content intended to teach, but that has educational entertainment value.
Creating awareness
“Enviro Comedy is a project that serves to create awareness on environmental issues like climate change, poaching, deforestation and so on.
“The idea is to entertain the people on serious and important issues,” Fernando said.
He added that he believes many people do not enjoy being formally educated on sustaining the environment, so he has taken the edutainment approach.
“Art is a very powerful tool when it comes to educating people; it is easier to convey a message through an element that is entertaining and enjoyable.
“Essentially, humour activates our sense of wonder, which is where learning begins, so it seems logical that humour could enhance our method of creating awareness on environmental issues,” he said.
Entrance to the festival will be free, but limited seats are available. To reserve your spot, call 081 424 7209. The show will also be streamed live on the ‘Wamboes Be Like’ Facebook page.
