With the release of his latest album 'Koning', Phatboy Lutor is proving the doubting Thomases that he is an all-round musician and not just a rapper.

For context, like many performing artists, his musical itinerary began as being part of a group and later as a backup dancer and vocalist for established artists like Sunny Boy, Satlam and Blacksheep. Having put in his 10 000 hours, here is a review of Phatboy Lutor's 'Koning', his first solo fully fledged album. With 15 songs of good music, thoughtful collaborations and good production, it seems that 2020 was certainly a busy year for Phatboy Lutor, despite the pandemic hamstringing him from touring his debut masterpiece.

The features are exciting and one does not get the sense that they are an added separate element in the songs but more an organic addition tailored to each song. Collaborations include Exit, DJ Flow, Krumblez, Aspres, Bobby WVDK and more.

Often debut albums are littered with a lot of features, but the same cannot be said about this album, once again demonstrating the artist's ability as a standalone man.

Overall, my standout collaboration on this album is 'Dig it', featuring Exit. There's one thing you can't do in Namibian music and that's to not know that Exit is an immaculate rapper, not just a kwaito artist. He is one of the best wordsmiths in town, period. On 'Dig it' he had flows and raps for days – not to mention battle skills.

Not a lot can be said to discredit this album sonically, which validates why American rapper The Game recently Direct Messaged Phatboy Lutor on Instagram commending him for his work.
