Dungeon storytellers, land activists are frustrated, failed politicians - Geingob

President Hage Geingob has labelled those opening the Lubango dungeons’ Pandora’s Box and those using the land issue for personal gain as frustrated and failed politicians.
The head of state made these remarks this morning during the opening of a Swapo Central Committee meeting at Rundu in the Kavango East Region.
Geingob said these failed politicians will do whatever it takes to play with people’s emotions. He warned this could hold serious consequences for Namibia, including civil war, if it is not addressed.
Geingob said people should rather promote a culture of unity, in which all Namibians are looked upon as equal citizens.
“There are people out there who say that we are the ones who fought and that is the spirit developing; and I see that if it is not addressed it is going to put us in what other countries have gone through, which is civil war. It starts like that,” Geingob said.
“Frustrated politicians and failed politicians, who look for anything to grab, whip up the emotions of the people. There are people who suffered genocides, which is true, but then the politician, the failed politician will use that.”
Geingob’s remarks come hot on the heels of the release of Oiva Angula’s tell-all book titled 'Swapo Captive - A Comrade's Experience of Betrayal and Torture', in which he speaks about his four-and-a-half-year imprisonment in the infamous Lubango dungeons, during which he was repeatedly tortured.
Certain Swapo members reportedly used the dungeons in the Angolan town to either eliminate or terrorise suspected dissidents during the armed struggle for Namibia's independence.
Reports suggest that about 4 000 Namibians were incarcerated in the dungeons and many remain missing.
