Drownings, attempted murders at Oshana
The Oshana police have recorded two separate drowning incidents after two people drowned while crossing flooded oshanas in the region on Monday.
Warrant Officer Frieda Shikole-Ashiyana informed Nampa on Wednesday that Joel Iita (38) drowned while crossing a pan at Olushika village in the Okaku Constituency around 17:00. His body was discovered around 09:00 on Tuesday. He had a mental illness and was a resident of Ongungila, also in the Okaku Constituency.
In the other incident, Stefanus Stefanus (24) was found dead in an oshana at Ombonde village on Tuesday afternoon, Shikole-Ashiyana said.
“He drowned near his mother's homestead. It is suspected that he was crossing the water from the village cuca shop back home the previous night,” Shikole-Ashiyana said.
The next of kin have been informed in both cases.
Shikole-Ashiyana also said two attempted murder cases were registered at Oshakati and Ondangwa on Tuesday. Two suspects, security guards from Amon Security Company stationed at the Gwashamba Mall in Ondangwa, allegedly beat up a 27-year-old taxi driver with batons and shot at him with rubber bullets after a quarrel erupted.
The victim was admitted to the Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital in a stable condition.
In the other incident, a 34-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing Kashuna Petrus (44) four times in the back and shoulders with a knife at Omahenene location in Oshakati.
“The victim is admitted in the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital in a critical condition,” Shikole-Ashiyana added.
