Citizens suffering the effects of drought in the North received assistance to the value of N$230 000 from Hangana Seafood last week.
The Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group subsidiary donated 24 720 cans of pilchards to drought-affected communities at Opuwo, Tsumkwe and Otjimbingwe.
Accepting the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries, Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Bernard Esau expressed support for the initiative shown by the company.
“As outlined in the constitution of Namibia, the fish in our sea and rivers belong to all Namibians. It is therefore encouraging to see those who have been granted the rights to fish in our waters, share their products of fishery with the less fortunate members of our society,” Esau said.
“It is my humble plea to call upon all players in the fisheries sector and the rest of Namibia to join in this worthy initiative in order to make a real difference in our communities and the country at large,” the minister said.
