Dikuua, Nyambe in pot
Swapo Kavango East elders’ council secretary Alfons Dikuua and Vilho Shikukumwa branch mobiliser Bertha Nyambe have been elected as the region’s two candidates for the ruling party’s electoral college this weekend.
Dikuua was elected during a regional conference that took place this morning in Rundu, where he secured 31 votes.
The other two nominees, Kavango East governor Samuel Mbambo and Mukwe constituency councillor John Thiguru, received 21 and 5 votes, respectively.
Nyambe did not need to secure any votes, after the two other nominees, Swapo Ndiyona district coordinator Scholastika Muranghuli and Ndonga Linena district coordinator Maria Kanyetu, both withdrew.
The regional conference also elected four delegates for the pot, Anselm Marungu, Kristiaan Muriki, Martina Shipipa and Ernestine Ndumba.
Dikuua and Nyambe now join fellow Kavango East Swapo members who are automatic candidates, including Rundu councillor Verna Sinimbo, who is member of the Swapo central committee, works minister John Mutorwa and trade minister Tjekero Tweya.
Swapo Kavango East regional mobiliser Bonifatius Wakudumo will also feature at the pot.
Wakudumo said during his closing remarks at this morning’s regional conference that Swapo Kavango East regional coordinator Otillie Shinduvi had declined to take part in the electoral college.
