Chickenpox victims recovering
Most of the chickenpox victims have already returned to training for the Namibia Premier League's Rundu Chiefs.
Rundu Chiefs' Thomas Shapi has confirmed that the team's players who contracted chickenpox last week could return to action soon.
Chiefs were due to play Chief Santos and Young Chiefs over the weekend in the MTC Namibia Premier League.
However, the club did not turn up for either match because of the contagious virus.
The team could not play for fear of spreading the virus to their opponents.
“I can confirm that the players have received proper treatment and are recovering well.
“The players contracted the virus after one of our team players fell ill before the Citizens match about a week ago.
“After that we found out that around eight players had caught the virus and that is why they did not play over the past weekend.
“However, three players who had the virus are completely healed, while the others are also recovering well.
“I do believe that we will be able to play our next game because everyone will be fine,” Shapi said.
Namibia Premier League administrator Joshua 'Tovey' //Hoebeb confirmed the incident which led to the postponement of two games over the weekend.
“Well it was unfortunate for Rundu Chiefs that they could not play over the weekend because the team personnel caught chickenpox.
“The virus is very contagious and we could not allow this game to take place as the illness could have spread to the other players,” //Hoebeb said.
He added that they would find a way to set another fixture for the clubs that did not play over the weekend because of the incident.
Rundu Chiefs are currently second from bottom after playing ten matches in the Namibia Premier League.
The club has lost six matches this season, winning three and drawing one.
Chiefs will host Young African and Black Africa in Rundu this coming weekend.
