The body of one of two missing persons who fell out of a boat at Swakopmund on Wednesday has been found.
This according to Namibian police Erongo regional commander, Commissioner Andreas Nelumbu, who said the body was of a man and that it washed ashore near the Platz Am Meer shopping mall, the same place the man fell out of the boat.
The man's body was found shortly after midnight by members of the local neighbourhood watch and the Namibia Marine Rescue Institute, and has yet to be identified.
No life jackets
According to Aquamund Academy senior lifeguard Erwin Gowaseb, the incident happened when the boat – which had five people on board at the time – was flung into the air by a big wave a short distance from shore.
“During this motion, two of the people on the boat were flung into the ocean. None of the people on the boat can swim and none of them wore life jackets,” he said.
The boat then made its way to shore, where the other three people safely disembarked. They were later treated for shock.
By Friday afternoon, there was still no trace of the second missing person.
