Black Africa confirm Kanalelo appointment
Defending Namibia Premier League (NPL) champions Black Africa yesterday issued a statement confirming the appointment of Ronnie Kanalelo as the team’s coach.
The former Brave Warriors goalkeeper will be joined by Otto Landsberg, who retains his position as assistant coach, and Arnold Subeb, who will be the team’s goalkeeper coach.
Kanalelo replaces veteran mentor Brian Isaacs, who led the ‘Lively Lions’ to four consecutive league titles.
Eric Quest, who also served as Isaacs’s assistant, and Papy Matengu were also sent packing after a press statement released in December announced Black Africa’s decision to retrench the entire technical team.
Landsberg, who is highly rated among the players at the club, was also initially part of the retrenched trio but has since been reinstated.
Reports suggest that Kanalelo already held his first training session on Monday.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns net minder was rendered jobless after South African Premier Soccer League club Bloemfontein Celtic had decided to part ways with German Ernst Middendorp, under whom Kanalelo was working as a goalkeeper coach.
Middendorp has since been appointed as head coach of another PSL side, Chippa United, but Kanalelo will not be joining him as he has now committed his time to Black Africa.
This may change at the end of the season, with Black Africa yesterday announcing that the arrangement would be reviewed at the end of the current NPL season.
This will be Kanalelo’s second stint in charge of the Lively Lions.
