Beast Master prepares for Putel

Whether it is to earn a quick buck or to give a great account of himself, light-heavyweight boxer Vikapeta ‘Beast Master’ Merero will return to the ring to face Bulgaria’s Tervel Putel on 29 January in a non-championship ten-rounder.
The 39-year-old Namibian and his opponent will co-headline the ‘Rumble-in-Dar’ boxing event organised by Botswana-based Global Boxing Stars and the Tanzania-based Jackson Group. The event will be held at the Next-Door Arena in Dar es Salaam.
The last time the Namibian fought was on 30 November 2019, when he lost to Nigeria’s Olanrewaju Durodola. The win came via a corner stoppage.
A month before that he had lost to South Afica’s Akani Phuzi via unanimous decision.
Merero, who has a record of 38 fights, 29 wins, 14 of them by knockout, and nine losses, was not available for comment yesterday.
But Immaneul ‘Ace’ Moses, who organised the fight for the boxer, said there are many opportunities for Merero in his weight class and that it is up to him and how much he wants to win.
His opponent, Putel, has an unbeaten record of 15 fights, 12 of them knockouts.
The boxing event will be headlined by Ibrahim Class, who will exchange leather with Dennis Mwale for the World Boxing Federation Intercontinental Lightweight Championship.
