Eight Namibian athletes who were promised prize money for their achievements by the sports ministry last year have yet to see a cent.
The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) as well as the ministry have yet to pay money owed to local athletes who won silverware for the country at international competitions last year.
Winning medals in cycling, archery, boxing and athletics at championships such as the Africa Games in Morocco, the World Athletics Championships in Doha and the World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai, Tristan de Lange, Alexander Miller, Vera Adrian, Quinn Redding, Adrian Grobler, Jonas Jonas, Helalia Johannes and Johannes Nambala are owed close to N$910 000 for their achievements.
NSC chief administrator Freddy Mwiya said the athletes' names have been submitted to the office of the director of sports, Sivute Katamba.
Katamba, however, did not reply to queries on the progress of the payouts.
