A manhunt is on for two suspects implicated in an armed robbery that took place at Woermann Brock in Mondesa, Swakopmund, last Thursday morning.
The two were part of a gang of armed robbers who stole N$147 560 from a cash-in-transit vehicle.
So far, N$37 370 has been recovered and two suspects have been arrested in Walvis Bay, Inspector Ileni Shapumba of the Erongo police confirmed.
“One of the suspects, who was shot by a member of the security company, received treatment at a Swakopmund hospital and is in a stable condition.
“We also recovered some of the stolen money and found the getaway vehicle used by the gang, which had been abandoned at a house in Mondesa.”
Shapumba requested public assistance in locating the fleeing robbers.
“The third suspect, who is still on the run, has been identified as an Oshiwambo-speaking Namibian male, Malakia Shikongo Naobeb. He drives a Toyota Corolla (‘Dankie Botswana’) silver in colour, registration number N 20615 S. It is suspected that he fled either to the north or the Khomas Region.”
Wounded
According to Shapumba, a fourth suspect, who has not been identified yet, is suspected to have been shot during the robbery and may be seriously wounded.
“A lot of blood and four teeth were found in the getaway car. This suspect is also at large. The police have visited local hospitals and clinics during their investigation, but he has not treated at any of the places visited.”
Shapumba asked anyone with information to contact Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu at 081 246 4757 or Detective Johannes Mwatongwe at 081 246 1121, or visit the nearest police station.
Shapumba also urged the public not to approach the suspects, as they may be armed.
Guard shot
The initial report that came in about the incident stated that the robbery took place at 07:22.
“It is alleged that Southern Cross Security Company officers came to collect money for banking at Woermann Brock, Mondesa. After receiving the money and while preparing to leave, they were accosted by four men.
“One of the robbers grabbed the driver's firearm and shot the assistant in the abdomen. They then took the money from the loading box."
The perpetrators drove away in a black Nissan Note with registration number N 39382 SH, heading in the direction of Arandis.
