Alleged Rundu rapists appear
KENYA KAMBOWE
Two men accused of separate rapes at Rundu this past weekend made their first appearances in the local magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
Peter Sindimba (39) is accused of allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl from the Ndama informal settlement in the early hours of Sunday morning, while Nyangana Hamutenya Haingura stands accused of allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 34-year-old woman at the Kehemu location against her will on Saturday at around 21:30.
The two appeared before Magistrate Sonia Samupofu, who remanded both cases to 2 April. Police investigations continue and the accused will now apply for legal aid.
The two were both denied bail and remain in custody.
Attempts to establish what transpired in both cases proved futile, as the charge sheets did not contain information about what led to the arrest of the suspects.
According to the weekly police crime report, four rape cases were reported at Rundu this past weekend.
On Saturday, a 17-year-old girl was raped by an unknown adult male who is currently on the run.
The other rape incident also took place on Saturday in a bushy area near the Agro-Marketing and Trade Agency (Amta) Rundu fresh-produce hub when a 37-year-old taxi driver allegedly raped a 24-year-old woman inside his vehicle.
The suspect has been arrested, but it is unclear whether he has appeared in court. Police investigations continue.
