The Swakopmund State Hospital driver accused of raping a 15-year-old Covid-19 patient has been denied bail.
Glenn Clifford Leister (27) appeared before Magistrate Nelao Paula Brown on Thursday.
It is alleged that the 15-year-old complainant was a Covid-19 patient who was recovering at the Swakopmund Rest Camp, which was used as an isolation facility at the time.
Leister denied all charges.
According to the State, the complainant told a social worker that Leister had grabbed her by the arm and raped her after locking the bungalow door.
The complainant said she had pleaded with Leister to stop as he was hurting her.
The case was postponed to 8 September.
Leister was represented by lawyer Jan Wessels.
Wessels argued that the complainant had a cellphone with her in the bungalow and could have told her parents that she had been raped instead of telling a social worker.
He also argued that it did not make sense for someone who had been raped to go outside to see if the coast was clear to give the alleged perpetrator the opportunity to leave the bungalow without being seen.
