31 players for Gladiators training camp

The Brave Gladiators technical team has named 31 players for a training camp in preparation for the 2018 Cosafa Women's Championships to be held in Port Elizabeth, South Africa between 26 August and 9 September.

Coach Brian Isaacs said they mixed experience with upcoming players who have potential and they are currently focused on conditioning them.

“We included the under-20 players to give them exposure and broaden our base and develop players for tomorrow as well. We are also looking at playing a few friendly matches, to give the girls game time,” he said.

Of the 31 players called up, 13 players are from the national u-20 team and the technical team is planning on playing a few games with the u-19 league teams.

Notably absent from the list is captain Uerikondjera Kasaona, who is said to be busy with her studies.

She has also indicted that she may retire from football.

“She has not yet submitted her official position on that decision, but as soon as she does so we will let you know,” Isaacs added.

He said they will decide at a later stage who will assume the captaincy of the team.

The coach added they expect the team to perform better than they did at last year's tournament in Zimbabwe, where the Gladiators failed to progress beyond the first round, after beating Botswana 4-0 before losing 3-1 to South Africa and 2-1 to Lesotho.

The players called for the camp are as follows:
