#16June aftermath

On 16 June 2016, the Namibian youth from all corners of Namibia and of different political formations, tribes and races, were united under the AR movement and peacefully demonstrated against the construction of a new parliament. For the first time in the Namibian history, the youth and the AR movement have successfully organised a mass action to advocate against a national issue such as the new parliament. It is important to note that the mass action helped the youth to see the truth and shed more light on the hidden agendas of those that are occupying high offices in this country. It was also clear that some of those in these high offices are abusing and misusing their offices for personal agendas and not the national agenda.It was shocking the other day to read in a local newspaper that President Geingob was referring to those that work for him as his ‘assets’. This is a romantic term used instead of calling his people zombies. If we could be a sleeping generation, we couldn’t know that there are assets that are often deployed to spy on the peace-loving Namibian youth. As many would be aware, the term “assets” refer to possessions of an individual that he/she uses to generate income or as wealth, assets cannot do anything on their own without the owner operating on them. This however shows to you that those that were sent to come and spy on the masses during the mass action of June 16; they are not human beings, but zombies that are only acting on the instructions of their master. The most interesting part is that they did not know what to go report since they can only do better under their master’s control. There were also deliberate attempts aimed at minimising the success of 16 June 2016. The minister responsible for education was ordering schools to ignore the long-standing tradition of the day being a public holiday. Nangolo Mbumba was reportedly ordering Swapo members to boycott the demonstrations. Fortunately all these machinations failed because the people realised that the demonstration was not against Swapo, after all people do not pay tax to Swapo, but they pay to government. It was right to demonstrate against the government. To top it off, there is also desperation to the effect that the “assets” are reportedly instructed to organise a demonstration in favour of the construction of new parliament. My message to the assets and their owner is that: Mobilisation of the masses is not for sellouts and it cannot be photo-shopped to fool the nation. We have seen how the zombies have reacted to the numbers of those people who were on attendance… apparently only ‘1 200’ people turned up, what method did the assets used to count? Confusion has done it for them on the number fabrication. That was a shameful comment made because we had the list of those who managed to sign the attendance registers. This whole confusion in our leaders shows that they have a fear of the unknown and they are no longer happy that the youth is now awake and they can have influence on government policies. Youth must not be seen as an object to fight government but as human capital that is willing and able to make Namibia a better country again. All we want is to rescue our country from the evil and corrupt practices of the political masters. Every generation has a responsibility that is to discover its mission, and fulfil it, so does AR youth, nothing less than that, it’s against that background that we young people have a responsibility to hold our government accountable, and to remind them that they must be nice to us on their way up, because they will need us on their way down. It’s our responsibility to make sure that no new parliament will be built at the expense of the poor; no new parliament will be built to benefit 200 politicians, as the majority of us are in abject poverty. As young people, we must unite, and present the superior logic; we cannot depend on SPYL or NYC, as those institutions are led by Judas Goats. A Judas goat is a trained goat used at a slaughterhouse and in general animal herding. The Judas goat is trained to associate with sheep or cattle, leading them to a specific destination. A Judas goat will lead sheep to slaughter, while its own life is spared. Judas goats are also used to lead other animals to specific pens and onto trucks. History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamour of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people. Every youth must decide whether he/she will walk in the light of what was submitted on #16June or in the darkness of destructive selfish politicians. As a youth in this country we have a future to take care of. Let us not forget that when Tatekulu Sam Nujoma or Tatekulu Andimba Toivo ya Toivo were young they challenged the apartheid governments, but not every person of their generation supported them. They were frowned upon too, but they never gave up, because it is was a calling of their generation. So 16 June 2016 was a calling of our generation and beyond. Yes, we are aware of the slogan “Swapo is the people and the people are Swapo” but equally there is nothing wrong to paraphrase this further to say AR is not the enemy of the government or of honest leaders that are corrupt-free, the fact is that we want the resources of Namibia including land to benefit every Namibian and as such AR members also, are coming from all households in Namibia including from the ruling party households.*Nathanael Nghituwamhata Kalola is a final-year student studying towards a Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Accounting and Business Studies at the University of Namibia.
