Angola land deal: Schlettwein puts his foot down

Staff Reporter
Finance minister Calle Schlettwein has asked the ministry of trade to abandon a reported N$117 million property deal in Angola, saying no treasury approval was granted. In a brief statement this afternoon, Schlettwein said procurement rules were also not followed. The Namibian reported today that the government wants to buy a N$117 million property in Angola reportedly owned by local businessman Titus Nakuumba. The newspaper claimed that the property in question includes a plot measuring 14 000 square metres and mini buildings on 20 000 square metres. According to the report, the government apparently wants to build a business park, with offices, workshops, housing units and warehouses.
