Nocky Ncube, the visionary behind Nocky Hair Salon, has forged an inspiring path from humble beginnings to becoming a pillar of excellence in the hair industry. What started as a one-woman show in 2010 has evolved into a thriving salon with a team of five dedicated professionals. Ncube's journey is a testament to perseverance, passion and an unwavering dedication to customer satisfaction.
During her first year at the University of Namibia (Unam), Ncube embarked on her entrepreneurial journey by offering house calls for hair braiding services. “I would go braid people at their houses once I was done with my classes,” she reminisced. As demand grew, she transitioned to a small room in Dorado Park, where clients flocked to experience her exceptional skills.
“My client base started growing and and I could not do house calls any more. Clients had to come to me, to where I used to stay,” she narrated. She added that her business grew to such an extent that she had to move in order to have a bigger work space.
“I started by renting a chair in town. Interestingly, I had to rent a room after that as the business grew. Then the room became small as well and eventually my business moved to a bigger space - and the rest is history.”

Despite juggling her studies and business, Ncube's commitment to customer service and care never wavered.
She prioritises their needs above all else, ensuring each individual receives personalised attention and exceptional service. “I always put my clients first and I know full well that without my clients, there’s no me.” Her innovative hairstyles, particularly the renowned Nocky Locs, have set her salon apart from the competition and earned her prestigious awards, including the best hairdresser accolade at the Zikomo Africa Awards and the title of best stylist at Katutura Fashion Week in 2021.
At Nocky Hair Salon, customer satisfaction is paramount. Ncube and her team approach each client with empathy, patience and a positive attitude, ensuring that no request is too challenging to fulfill. “Treating everyone that comes to Nocky's the same way is important. Everyone who takes time to try our services out is very special to me," she said. Beyond her entrepreneurial pursuits, Ncube is a multifaceted individual who enjoys socialising, dancing and engaging in thought-provoking discussions. Inspired by other businesswomen in Namibia, she holds an honours degree in media studies and English, as well as an MBA in management. While she is a qualified journalist, her passion for hairdressing led her to pursue it as a full-time career, showcasing her innate talent and determination to succeed.
Looking ahead, Ncube promises exciting ventures and collaborations in the coming year, with plans to host events and activities that celebrate women in the hair industry. “Expect fireworks from us this year!” she exclaimed. As she continues to push boundaries and redefine success, Ncube remains a shining example of resilience, innovation and unwavering dedication to her craft.
