Poiyah media appoints its first official employee
Poiyah Media has named Petrina Mbadhi as its public relations officer, effective today.
Mbadhi becomes the first official employment within the company, reinforcing Poiyah’s mission to provide job opportunities in the communications sector.
Mbadhi, who started as an intern, said the role feels “surreal” and joked it’s a real “pinch-me” moment.
Founded by Ilke Platt, a seasoned media professional with nearly two decades of experience, Poiyah Media has opened doors for over 100 students through its internships.
The agency has also earned numerous accolades, including the Nzinga50 award earlier this year and nominations for the African Achievers Awards and African Women Leadership awards in recent years.
Platt said: “Bridging the gap between studies and the workplace is crucial for developing confident, skilled professionals. We are honoured to now retain the talent we’ve nurtured.”
Mbadhi holds a bachelor of arts in English studies (honours) and is currently pursuing a master’s in English studies at the University of Namibia. In her new role, she will oversee Poiyah Media’s public relations, communication and stakeholder engagement.
“This is a big moment for both me and the agency. I look forward to working with the team to deliver quality services while continuing to grow in this field," Mbadhi said.
‘Grow and shine’
Driven by a vision to become Namibia’s go-to media relations partner, Poiyah Media is committed to crafting impactful communication strategies and creating meaningful employment opportunities that benefit the broader economy.
From internship beginnings to managing campaigns and PR crises, Mbadhi reflects on her journey: “The inauguration of RND Holdings, my first project, will always stand out. It taught me skills I continue to use today – it was the moment I knew I was on the right path.”
Mbadhi leaves future interns with this advice: “Polish your strengths to cover your weaknesses and embrace feedback – it’s how you grow and shine.”
For trends, TikTok is her go-to. Her dream campaign? Partnering with Delila Katanga for her vibrant energy. Mbadhi advises future interns to “polish your strengths, embrace feedback, and glow up.”
She’s ready to bring fresh ideas, promising fun, engaging content to keep Poiyah’s brand sharp and lively.
