Naftal Akweenda: New relationship manager for FNB Commercial Banking
FNB Namibia is delighted to welcome Naftal Akweenda as its relationship manager in the FNB commercial banking segment, effective 16 July. In his role as relationship manager, Akweenda will focus on enterprise banking clients in the oil and gas value chain and other energy sectors.
Akweenda is an experienced banker, having started his career at Standard Bank Namibia in 2018 as a graduate trainee, where he gained valuable experience in various aspects of banking, most notably legal and credit.
He then joined the business and commercial banking division in 2020, where he held the position of credit originator and later that of relationship manager. In his role as relationship manager, Akweenda managed a diverse portfolio of High Touch clients in sectors such as renewable energy, oil and gas, tourism, and logistics.
Crucial role
During 2023, Akweenda was seconded to Stanbic IBTC (Nigeria), where he worked closely with the in-country oil and gas team. During his secondment, he gained an in-depth understanding of the sector's value chain and financing strategies.
Connie-Marlene Theyse, head of enterprise banking, said: “We at FNB Commercial are truly excited to welcome Naftal to the team and we know he will make a tremendous contribution to the bank and our clients.”
In addition to his banking experience, Akweenda holds a Master of Philosophy in Development Finance and a postgraduate Diploma in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch, as well as a Bachelor of Commerce with Law from the University of Pretoria. Akweenda is currently pursuing a Master of Management in Energy Leadership at the University of Witwatersrand.
