“I really have a deep commitment to my profession as an accountant and from a young age I have been fascinated by numbers and their ability to tell a story,” Lezaundre Cloete recounted recently.

Cloete takes pride in her role as an A3 senior trainee accountant at PKF Financial Consulting Services (Pty) Ltd and is currently busy pursuing her NIPA articles to become a registered professional accountant.

In 2018, Cloete obtained her honours degree in accounting at the University of Namibia and registered for her postgraduate degree in education in 2019.

Cloete explained that her role as an A3 position senior trainee accountant involves:

• Preparation of income tax returns and objections for all taxpayers

• Finalisation of client year-end working paper files

• Preparation of client financial statements

• Preparation of and checking of standard returns required by law

• Secretarial work

• Client assistance

• Assist with preparation of feasibility studies and various forecasts/models

• Training duties (provide on-the-job training and assist junior staff)

“In the dynamic world of finance, I have found my purpose as an accountant while working at PKF Financial Consulting Services (Pty) Ltd," she said.

She added: "I am really drawn to the company because of the opportunity for growth and training courses provided to us."

She said there are several essential skills that accountants need to navigate the financial industry, including the ability to analyse and interpret financial data accurately, work effectively in a team, perform well under pressure, communicate clearly, demonstrate leadership, solve problems efficiently and pay close attention to detail.

Cloete advised any young professional interested in building a career as an accountant to always stay true to themselves and never be afraid to speak up when you need to.

“For me, accounting is more than a profession – it’s a way to build trust, create financial clarity and empower others to achieve their goals,” Cloete said.
