WHS bulldozed past Windhoek Gymnasium Lions
Samsung Windhoek High School’s first team, the Kudu Bulls, secured a decisive victory over King Price Windhoek Gymnasium’s Lions, winning 41-24 in the final of the Standard Bank Namibia Secondary Schools Rugby (NSSR) Under-19 Super League.
The match took place on Saturday at the Hage Geingob Stadium. This rematch of the 2023 finalists was an intense and tactical showdown that kept the audience engaged throughout.
WHS gained an early advantage when left-winger Eathan Sinden scored the first try in the 21st minute, with fullback Joshua Moller adding the conversion and a penalty to make it 10-0.
Gymnasium responded through captain Ruan Agenbag, who scored after a line-out maul, reducing the deficit to 10-5.
However, Sinden crossed the line again just before half-time, and with Moller’s conversion, WHS led 17-5 at the break.
Solid efforts
In the second half, WHS extended their lead with a try by right-wing Alejandro Morkel, followed by another conversion from Moller, making it 24-5. Gymnasium’s lock, Zander Le Roux, answered back with a try and flyhalf Waldré Kotze’s conversion brought the score to 24-12.
Despite a solid effort from Gymnasium, WHS’s Eljoh Strauss made a game-changing break with a full-length run to score. After another Moller conversion, WHS led 31-12.
Gymnasium continued to push, with scrumhalf Janco Bredenhann scoring in the 57th minute. WHS responded with a penalty from flyhalf William Beukes and another try from centre Sammy Soobramoney, extending the lead to 41-19. Gymnasium captain Agenbag managed a late try in the 70th minute, but it was not enough to close the gap.
WHS captain McHenry Kambatuka was named the best forward of the final and Soobramoney Sammy was recognised as the best backline player.

In the U/19 A league final, Autohaus Windhoek Afrikaans Privaatskool I triumphed over Elnatan Privaatskool I with a score of 18-10. Affies fullback No?lle Loubser opened the scoring with a penalty, and outside centre Roelof Venter’s try put them ahead at half-time.
Affies reserve Berndt Otto added another try in the second half and despite a late effort from Elnatan, Loubser’s penalty sealed the win for Affies.
Other notable results from the day included Windhoek Gymnasium’s dominant 36-5 win over WHS in the U/14A final, M&K Gertze’s 31-12 victory in the U/14 B final, and a 19-15 triumph for Windhoek Gymnasium in the U/15 A final against Walvis Bay Private School.
The U/19 B league saw HTS Windhoek edge out M&K Gertze I 26-24, while WHS II overcame Windhoek Gym II 44-30 in the U/19 premier B final.
