Tambula Boy goes international

Junior Kapofi
Junias Fernando - popularly known as Tambula Boy - is a Namibian dance creative who rose to fame after creating a dance video to the song 'Yahyuppiyah' by Uncle Waffles that trended on social media getting over two million views. In addition, he added his own flame to the dance called the Tambula that socialites from all over the world do today.

After rising to fame, Fernando received over 105 000 followers on Instagram and over 55 000 followers on TikTok, where he received more than one million likes on the platform.

Fernando is a 17-year-old grade 11 learner at Kollin Foundation Secondary School in Arandis.

He said he had no idea his video would go viral. “After Jayden Dausab, my manger, uploaded it on TikTok, the video started trending there and the rest is history,” he said.

He said he enjoys making TikTok challenges, and adds his own twist in addition to his dance.

Fernando has had the chance to collaborate with the 'Yahyuppiyah' hitmakers PCee and Justin during their time in Namibia as well as other South African artists and TikTok creators who come to Namibia and drive down to Arandis to meet him.

He advised the youth to believe in what they do. "Don’t quit and never be shy to shoot your video, you never know when your breakthrough is coming. Also, show love, appreciate every little type of appreciation individuals on the app give you,” he added.
