The Windhoek High School girls' team of 15 under-19 athletes left on Monday, joining the Windhoek Gymnasium team to participate in the Cape Town International Hockey Festival from 18 to 23 July in South Africa.
Coach Peti Hamilton said the team had training sessions during the holiday and played friendly games to ensure thorough preparation ahead of the tournament.
"This festival helps with preparing for the league. We believe that our team will have good games, be successful and return with much more experience," said Hamilton. The team will be captained by Kaitlyn Leff and her second, Milah Malan.
"Like any tournament, the nerves and excitement are high. Yet above all, it’s an honour to be able to captain this team, and I’m beyond grateful for each girl, my coach, as well as our manager, who makes it so easy to showcase what our school is all about. Pride, joy, respect, trust, and so much more," Leff said.
