Otjiwarongo Secondary School (OSS) marked a significant milestone by celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. Since its establishment in 1953, the school has played a pivotal role in providing education to the Otjiwarongo community.

As we commemorate this momentous occasion, it's essential to reflect on our school's rich history, its remarkable achievements, and our commitment as Otjiwarongo Secondary School students to maintain its distinguished legacy.

In true OSS tradition, the school hosted a memorable celebration by gathering all students in the hall for a well-organised ceremony. The event commenced with the students joining together to sing both the national anthem and the school's anthem.

This was followed by an exploration of the school's history, encapsulating its highs and lows as it evolved over the years.

The ceremony also featured a heartfelt speech from the head of the school board, along with meaningful excerpts from the Bible and a brief prayer.

Learning about the school's journey left a profound sense of pride in many of us, fostering a deeper appreciation for being a part of the Otjiwarongo Secondary School family. The ceremony culminated with a captivating performance by the school choir, leaving students clamouring for an encore, and each learner received a small token of appreciation.

A community celebrates

Otjiwarongo Secondary School has always maintained a close relationship with the local community, and this anniversary celebration further exemplified this bond.

The school opened its doors to the community, welcoming entrepreneurs from the town to set up stalls on the school grounds. Students were encouraged to invite their relatives and friends to enjoy the vibrant event, and ample time was allotted for everyone to explore the diverse offerings at these stalls. The choices were abundant, ranging from delectable food stalls to tantalising candy stands, where students eagerly lined up to satisfy their sweet cravings.

In conclusion, it was a joyous day brimming with festivities, a fitting tribute to 70 years of successful education. What more could one ask for in celebrating seven decades of achievements? As we reflect on this momentous occasion, we eagerly anticipate the future and look forward to achieving many more remarkable milestones with Otjiwarongo Secondary School.
