Nedbank Namibia launches education trust

In a landmark move to support education and career development, Nedbank Namibia recently launched the NedNamibia Holdings Education Trust.This initiative aims to provide financial assistance to the bank's employees and their dependents, helping them achieve their educational aspirations.The official launch took place on Monday at the Nedbank Namibia Campus in Windhoek. The trust manages shares and investments that generate income, which is then allocated to fund the education of eligible beneficiaries.In its first year, 23 individuals including 16 Nedbank employees and seven dependents will receive funding at accredited institutions within the SADC region, across the banking finance, cyber security, law and microbiology fields.NNH Group Remco Chairperson Florentia Amuenje emphasised the importance of education, stating, "For us at Nedbank, this initiative is more than just a way to strengthen our human resources strategy and retain employees. It is to capitalise on the transformative power of education and to create a lasting impact for the beneficiaries."She added that "Namibia's higher education enrollment rate stands at just 28.89%, significantly lower than the global average of 40%. This gap underscores the urgent need for solutions to make education accessible to all."Nedbank Namibia’s Human Resources Executive, Bianca Muller, spoke on the benefits of investing in employees. “According to a global survey, companies that provide training and development opportunities to engage employees are 17% more productive and 21% more profitable."[Furthermore], more than two-thirds of Gen Z believe that training is not just beneficial but essential for a successful career.”Managing Director Martha Murorua reinforced the bank’s commitment, saying, "At Nedbank Namibia, we see education not as a privilege but as a fundamental right. It is the key that unlocks opportunities, fosters personal growth and drives collective progress."She added that the establishment of the trust stems from a deep belief that by supporting employees and their families, the bank can transform lives and strengthen the communities they all belong to.
