IYF Dream Camp 2024: Empowering youth for future leadership
The IYF Dream Camp 2024, held earlier this month at the University of Namibia (Unam) Khomasdal campus and Windhoek High School, nurtured the potential of Namibian youth and equipped them with invaluable skills and experiences essential for the road ahead as future leaders.
The three-day event attracted approximately 120 enthusiastic participants and served as a dynamic platform for personal growth, cultural exchange and community building.
Fostering growth through mind education
A key feature of the camp was the series of mind-education lectures presented by the mind specialist and country representative of IYF-Namibia, Sangbin Kim. In his opening address, Kim emphasised that many young people aspire to achieve great things but often attribute their limitations to their circumstances, leading them to abandon their dreams.
The youth engaged in a variety of activities designed to promote personal development and cultural appreciation. From Korea Culture Exhibition booths to academy classes, participants found numerous avenues for exploration and self-discovery.
Testimonials
Shinedima Indileni, a 26-year-old student from Triumphant College, shared her transformative experience:
“The IYF Dream Camp has been nothing short of transformative. Before arriving, I was trapped within the confines of my comfort zone, guided by the well-meaning but stifling influence of my siblings. My past failures weighed heavily on me, sapping my confidence and tempting me to surrender to the obstacles that littered my path. But three days ago, I stepped into the embrace of the IYF Dream Camp, and everything changed. Surrounded by an atmosphere of empowerment and encouragement, I found myself liberated from the shackles of self-doubt. My own thoughts no longer imprison me; I emerged with a renewed sense of purpose and determination.”
Timothy Mulondo (24) from Outsourcing Solutions, expressed his appreciation for the camp:
“This has been my second year volunteering at an IYF Dream Camp event, and I've been privileged to witness the organisation's unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of global Namibian leaders. This event stands as a testament to their mission and vision, offering a glimpse into a Namibia where barriers are broken, minds are expanded and dreams are realised. It's an experience that has not only enriched the lives of participants but has reaffirmed my own belief in the power of youth empowerment to shape a brighter tomorrow.”
A bright future ahead
The IYF Dream Camp 2024 has left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of its participants, providing them with the tools and inspiration needed to pursue their dreams and contribute to their communities. As these young leaders return to their daily lives, they carry with them the lessons and experiences gained from this transformative event, ready to shape a brighter future for Namibia.
