Every great dream begins with a dreamer
As a soccer player, you can only hope to one day play in leagues such as the well-known Premier League in England or to represent your country in a World Cup. Lucky enough for Tshiamiso Pieters, Monas Stern and Markus Adams, hard work paid off tenfold as they received recognition for their hard work and determination.
Pieters, also known as 'Sanchez', represented not only Jan Möhr Secondary School but Namibia as well in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier and under-2 Cosafa Cup in Angola and Eswatini respectively. The event took place in September.
Goalkeeper Sanchez said his passion for soccer was awakened from a young age and he hopes to become a professional player or maybe even join the national team, the Brave Warriors.
When they left for the competitions, their flight was scheduled for 08:00 and they woke up early to make sure they hadn't forgotten anything. On their way to the airport, they sang team spirit songs as a form of expression and collective identity, which lightened the mood before the grand destination. While most of them felt tremendous excitement, others were nervous as it was their first time on a plane. They were in the air for approximately three hours.
Pieters added that he enjoyed playing his favourite sport in another country and being able to showcase his skills as well as play amongst other talented players. The team gained a lot of experience since there were no league football for the past three years and it was difficult for them because they played against professionals. They played a total of three matches.
