Are you optimistic about a youth-led Namibia?

Yes, I am very optimistic about a youth-led Namibia. A country like Namibia has a large population of young people who are passionate and have the potential to lead this country to greater heights. I believe challenges such as high youth unemployment, have been and still are a threat to our country but this can be tackled by investing in education, vocational training and creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs to help the youth stay off the streets. Young people understand each other far better, so having a nation led by the youth could bring fresh perspectives and energy, making it easier to navigate these challenges.

Absolutely! Young leaders bring fresh energy, innovative ideas and a real understanding of what matters to our generation. For the first time, we have voices in parliament that truly represent the future of Namibia, tackling challenges with new perspectives and solutions that prioritise progress. A youth-led Namibia is a step toward inclusivity, forward thinking policies, and a government that listens and adapts.

Yes, I’m hopeful and excited about the direction Namibia is taking with the youth stepping into leadership roles. As a young leader myself, I’ve seen how youth bring energy, innovation and a no-fear attitude to leadership. Seeing young leaders enter parliament gives me confidence that real change is possible. It signals a shift toward inclusive governance that speaks to the realities we face every day. I’m confident they will champion issues like education, unemployment and youth empowerment with real urgency.

No, I'm not feeling optimistic just yet. While young representation is a step forward, many appear to be symbolic figures rather than decision-makers. Older officials often wield power and may be resistant to change. Unless institutional culture changes and youth leaders are truly empowered, as Bernard Haufiku was, and advocate against corruption, their impact will be limited.

Only time will tell what the future holds. Stay tuned!
