R4-million Range Rover Sport launched in South Africa – and there are only 23 of them
Jaguar Land Rover has officially launched the new Range Rover Sport SV Edition Two in South Africa for the modest sum of R3,971,500 a pop.
The Edition Two is the new flagship of the Range Rover Sport line and has the credentials to back up its position, boasting the most powerful engine in the series to date.
To put its price tag in perspective, the previous top-end model the P530 Autobiography retails for a cool R2,928,200, meaning the Edition comes at a significant premium of R1,043,300.
What’s more, the new SV is a limited-edition model and only 23 examples have been allocated for our market, making it one of the most exclusive vehicles in the country.
Specifications
The Edition Two’s biggest claim to fame is its drivetrain, which takes the form of a 4.4-litre, twin-turbo, V8 petrol engine with mild-hybrid assistance.
This powerplant, which goes by the designation “P635,” produces a staggering total of 467 kW and 750 Nm, officially making it the most powerful Range Rover Sport to date, according to the automaker.
As a result, the new model can make the 0-100 km/h sprint in a lightning-quick 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 290 km/h despite its large outer shell.
The SV also features the brand’s pioneering “6D Dynamics” suspension, which uses a combination of hydraulic interlinked dampers and height-adjustable air springs.
This system is designed to reduce pitch and maintain a “near-level” body stance during extreme cornering, heavy acceleration, and hard braking, while still ensuring optimal comfort for occupants.
The flagship even has an exclusive SV Mode button which, when pressed, reconfigures the vehicle’s suspension, powertrain, steering, transmission, and active exhaust to maximize performance.
Holding down the button will open a Configurable Dynamics menu on the digital display, allowing the driver to customize the settings of the mode to suit their preferences.
As for the rest of the package, the new Sport is offered in one of four exclusive paint jobs comprising Blue Nebula Matte, Marl Grey Gloss, Sunrise Copper Satin and Ligurian Black Gloss.
The Nebula Blue scheme has a hint of green with a colour-shifting effect and is paired with the Satin Forged Carbon Exterior package, which adds a carbon-fibre bonnet, 23-inch forged alloy wheels, blue brake calipers, and SV Performance Seats with Light Cloud and Ebony Windsor leather.
The Marl Grey option is paired with the Gloss Carbon Twill Exterior pack, which includes an exposed Carbon Twill bonnet, 23-inch alloys, Sunrise Copper brake callipers, and a Rosewood and Ebony Windsor interior.
The Sunrise Copper choice, meanwhile, adds a Satin Carbon Twill pack along with black alloy rims, red anodized callipers, and the Ebony Windsor seats.
Lastly, the Ligurian Black Gloss option comes with the Satin Carbon Twill pack, with Carbon Gloss alloys, Nano Yellow callipers, and Cinder-and-Ebony knit and Ultrafabrics upholstery.
On top of this, the Edition Two sets itself apart from its peers with exclusive branding on the front splitter, centre console, treadplates, and puddle lamps.
If these choices still aren’t enough, clients can customize their purchase even further with 22-inch diamond-turned alloys with a Satin Dark Grey finish, a body-coloured roof, and either the Satin Forged Carbon Fibre Pack or Twill Carbon Fibre Pack, depending on the paint finish chosen.
One other selling point of the new Range Rover is its “Body and Soul” seats, which have carbon fibre backs and feature integrated audio technology that allows users to feel the sounds played through the media system.
