Finance, public enterprises ministries merged
News in short
The ministry of public enterprises has been dissolved and will now be merged with treasury to become the ministry of finance and public enterprises, a government gazette shows. President Hage Geingob last week signed the new ministry into existence.
The president said, in terms of Article 32(8) of the Namibian Constitution and the powers invested in him, he dissolved the public enterprises ministry and established the new ministry.
Iipumbu Shiimi is the new head of the ministry, while Maureen Hinda-Mbuende will deputise him.
The decision is based on the advice of the High-Level Panel on the Namibian Economy, which recommended that the ministry be dissolved and turned into a holding company. It was led by retired politician Leon Jooste.
