The sixth Transform Africa Summit (TAS) will take place from 26 to 28 April in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe was chosen from among 36 Smart Africa Alliance member submissions.

The premier African technology and digital event organised by Smart Africa, the summit is a commitment from African heads of state and government to accelerate sustainable socio-economic development on the continent through accessibility to information and communications technology (ICT), and brings together over 5 000 participants from more than 100 nations.

To make crucial decisions for Africa’s socio-economic development through ICT, Smart Africa’s board - comprising heads of state, ministers, international industry leaders and key stakeholders - will attend the three-day event.

This edition is themed ‘connect, transform and innovate,” and its main areas of focus include policy and regulation, funding for digital infrastructure, capacity and skill development and digital continental commerce.

Away from home

“For the first time, the TAS will take place outside of Rwanda, and we are thrilled that our active member nation Zimbabwe will serve as our host. The TAS 2023 will once more emphasise how committed African governments are to advancing the continent’s digital agenda. This year will be significant for Africa’s digital transformation,” Lacina Koné, the CEO and director-general of Smart Africa, said.

Delegates will be brought together to discuss the difficulties involved in attempting to transform and move Africa towards a knowledge-based economy. “Our move towards a knowledge-driven economy intends to increase Arica’s competitiveness in the global economy. ICT has the ability to level the global playing field, unlock human capital and harness its full potential,” Smart Africa chairman and Rwandan president Paul Kagame said.

The summit will include exhibitions, discussion panels and roundtables, and is open to public participation.

Zimbabwean president Emmerson Mnangagwa will inaugurate the summit and welcome other heads of state, including Kagame, who will chair a Smart Africa board meeting there.
