Truck crashes into Narraville house
A truck drove into a house in Walvis Bay’s Narraville suburb on Sunday evening.According to a Namibian Police report, the white Cino truck – with a foreign-registered number plate – was driven by a 39-year-old Zambian national when it crashed into the home at around 18:20.
“It is alleged that the truck and a white Isuzu double-cab bakkie, driven by a 54-year-old Namibian woman, were involved in a head-on collision. This reportedly caused the truck to drive into the bedroom of the house.”
Furthermore, the truck driver, who was suspected to be under the influence, refused to cooperate with police on the scene. “He was arrested by the police for drunk driving and refusing to blow [into the breathalyser machine].”
A passenger in the truck, a 17-year-old boy, sustained minor injuries and is still in the hospital, while the driver of the Isuzu bakkie complained about chest pain. “She also sustained an open wound to her left leg. All occupants of the house escaped unharmed.”
Police investigations continue.
The truck was removed from the house about two hours after the accident. Three local tow-inn operators jointly pulled the truck from the rubble.
The incident has once more sparked outraged among Narraville residents concerning trucks driving in the residential area. “There was a board at the entrance of Narraville, prohibiting certain trucks to drive in the neighbourhood, but it has been removed, and look what has happened now. We are not going to leave this matter here,” a concerned resident said.
A truck port is located at the new entrance of Narraville, on the road to Dune 7.
