TransNamib's Tsumeb line operational again
The TransNamib line near Tsumeb, which was closed after a railway accident last Thursday night, resumed operations on Monday.
An accident occurred at the Tsumeb triangle in Oshikoto Region on 28 April at approximately 21:00 when a locomotive collided against wagons in the triangle.
TransNamib spokesperson Abigail Raubenheimer said the locomotive and three wagons were derailed.
Raubenheimer said although no one was injured, the accident damaged the railway line and blocked any further train movement.
“TransNamib immediately activated its emergency response plan and the line was closed. We sincerely apologise to our stakeholders and customers for any inconvenience caused,” she said last Friday.
On Monday, she told Namibian Sun that they had restored service on the line.
